Important to Both Men and Women
A survey by the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) showed that 22% of people who were unhappy with their smile felt that a better smile would improve their love life. The survey also showed that 77% of women thought that crooked teeth were worse than a receding hairline in a man.
Now, we know what you’re thinking: of course orthodontists would find and promote something like that. After all, they’re trying to promote braces and other methods of straightening crooked teeth. But what about a survey conducted someone with no interest in the smile per se?
Match.com conducted a comprehensive survey of 5500 singles age 21 and over to find out what really mattered in choosing a mate. They found that smiles were the number one factor they used in judging a potential partner. Smiles mattered to 71% of women, and 58% of men. The next most important category? Grammar, which mattered to 69% of women and 55% of men. The odds that you’re going to find a partner who doesn’t care about your smile aren’t good, especially if you’re a man.
