At Dental Excellence of Blue Bell, we are committed to providing all our patients with the high level of care they deserve and need to maintain a healthy, beautiful smile for life. We are always happy to work with insurance companies that share our values and allow us to provide the level of care we believe in without charging additional fees.
Merck & Co’s MetLife dental insurance plans allow us to do just that, so we’re happy to welcome people with that plan at our office.
Insurance That Treats You Right
Not all dental insurance allows for quality care. Insurance companies decide on what they consider to be a usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) fee for services such as checkups or dental crowns. This isn’t standard across all insurance companies, or even all plans by the same insurance company. It doesn’t reflect what really needs to be done as part of the service, it’s more related to the costs the company is willing to pay.
As a result, if we want to provide quality care to someone whose insurance company has a low UCR, we have to charge the additional cost the individual because the insurance company won’t pay it.
But the MetLife plan offered to Merck’s employees has a reasonable UCR that allows us to provide quality care and allows you to keep treatment in your budget, which makes you happy and makes us happy.
Merck’s Philadelphia History
Merck & Co. has had a major presence in Philadelphia since 1953, when it merged with pharmaceutical retailer Sharpe & Dohme. Sharpe & Dohme had been a Philadelphia company since 1929 when it merged with the H.K. Mulford Company. The H.K. Mulford Company was founded when Henry Kendall Mulford graduated from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and purchased the Old Simes drug store. The Old Simes drug store had opened in 1815 in Philadelphia.
Throughout its life, Merck has maintained an ethic of care toward the purchasers of its medication. Research has always been conducted to help improve the quality of medications to ensure safety and effectiveness. Merck also offers programs that allow reduced cost or free medications for those in need. This ethic of care also extends to its employees, who are provided with adequate benefits that help preserve their health, including quality dental insurance.
